My father swam the Danube River to escape communism during WWII and somehow ended up here in America. Long story short, after communism ended, my mother’s older sister met my father’s younger brother and got married (I know it’s confusing so try to stay with me). That is how my parents met, and before you knew, they got married! In 1996 they moved to America, and in 1997 I joined the family.
When I was 10 months old, I went on my first airplane trip to Romania, where I would stay for six months. From that age until about four, I spent six months in Romania with my grandparents (and pretty much my entire family) and six months in America with my mom and dad. From four to 6 years old I spent most of my time with my grandparents (who conveniently happened to live in our house), because my mother and father were working here in U.S. I started school at the age of six and spent the entire first grade without seeing my parents. I visited during summer vacation, and as a surprise, my parents moved back to Romania with me. From 2nd grade to 5th grade, we lived in Romania. We owned a farm with cows, sheep and chicken…you name it. My father also started a dog kennel, Vom Haus Ioana, and we raised German Shepherds, trained them, and participated in competitions all over Europe. I guess that is how I came to love animals, and especially dogs <3. In 6th grade, I moved to Chicago with my mother and father, and I’ve lived here ever since.
I visit Romania every summer, because I simply MUST see my family and my two puppies (well they’re all grown up now but I still call them my puppies). Yup. That pretty much sums up my life. :)
